Everything vs. Socialism Posted on 01/11/2007

The primary difference between Capitalism and Socialism is who owns the freedom to control the price of goods and services.

The socialist ideology and position that it’s okay for the government to take money from everyone to feed into a social system, failing to acknowledge the failures of distribution of those pooled funds or the nature of people to want to excel, using personal wealth and achievement as measures of success compared to others in a field of endeavor. Socialism discourages high flights of creative productivity and inventive methods for solving problems, propelled forward by the promise of wealth and financial security in conjunction with the value provided by cures for cancer, breakthroughs in communication, or solutions for natural and man-made catastrophes.

What Would a Capitalist Do?

A capitalist wouldn’t ask, “How many Benzes and mansions does another man need,” to justify government theft and wealth distribution to those who own less, or as a way to prop up failed business competitors through corporate welfare and bailouts. A capitalist knows that buying the Benz and the mansion just employed hundreds of people in the processing of raw materials to build and maintain the cars and homes. It's perfectly okay that those employed in the creation of products have less vision and less talent, and, therefore, earn less than the wealthy buyer, but they have at their disposal the means to become wealthy.

A capitalist knows that reinvestment of his money in the economy, in other businesses, in his own business, keeps people employed and earning enough money to buy other products and services. He knows that giving money to the government so they can throw it down various ratholes and hand it to crooks and bad businessmen doesn’t create anything and doesn’t help anybody produce anything or create jobs, and that it limits his own ability to create more value. Such supports and protectionism and unfair advantage to other businesses, while cutting into a fair competitor’s profit, instills a warped sense of entitlement, a feeling that anyone is entitled, free of charge, to someone else’s labor, creativity, long hours of hard work and risk taking. If the wealthy refused to stop earning, burned down their businesses, and fired everyone as a way to boycott the government taking half of what they earned, the government would come after your income without compunction and without mercy until you became one of the people who need government aid.
