It's the condition of life that makes us feel as though we can control our outcomes, our daily pursuits, our desires.  

Personal and organized boycotts of the actions of others are protected expressions, though the government places conditions on the expression, including prohibiting those that make public throughway and shopping or work place access inconvenient, and rightly prohibiting violent outbursts.

Big consumer groups boycotting en masse can effect change, if only the closing of the doors of otherwise valued service providers, which is their right if wrongly accused and their business suffers irreparably.
